Signum Vortumni Project 2019

Archaeological Field School in the Roman Forum
Summer Season: 17 June – 26 July, 2019

The project 'Signum Vortumni: Under the Palatine' was launched by ISAR (The International Society for Archaeology, Art and Architecture of Rome) in 2016 with the aim of unveiling signs of Etruscan cultural and religious influence that gave rise to the birth of Roman civilization. Despite its central location, in the Velabro, between the Tiber and the Palatine Hill, the area has yet to be thoroughly investigated.

ISAR organises a summer field school season in 2019 that will present a sequence of lessons, in the classroom and on-site, to provide students with the basic skills to discern the multiple phases of site use found at the famed Horrea Agrippiana located at the base of the Palatine Hill in the Forum Romanum. The focus of the 2019 season will be on unveiling evidence of the Republican, Archaic, and Regal periods below the imposing visible remains of the Horrea Agrippiana built during the time of Augustus.

This 6-week field school will run from June 17th to July 26th, 2019. All students are eligible to apply (no prior experience needed) and the deadline for applications is March 1st, 2019.
